Rotala Goias

Rotala Goias, scientific name Rotala mexicana, variety “Goias”. It is a natural variety of Mexican Rotala. It was first discovered in the river systems of the Brazilian state of Goias, which is reflected in the name of this form. Previously considered a separate species and supplied as Rotala sp. Goias. Despite its South American origin, it was first introduced to the market as an aquarium plant in Japan.

In favorable conditions, forms undersized bushes with a creeping rhizome. Rotala Goias tends to grow in breadth rather than in height, making it popular in nano aquariums. Rather small narrow leaves develop on short stems up to 11 mm in length and 1,5 mm. The color depends on growing conditions and usually ranges from reddish to yellow. Flowers appear on both underwater and aerial parts of the plant. They are very small, inconspicuous, located in the axils of the leaves.

Demanding on content. Needs a soft nutrient soil, it is advisable to use a special aquarium soil rich in trace elements. The lighting is intense. Being modest in size, in large aquariums it may lack light. The hydrochemical composition of water should have low pH and dH values.
